March General Meeting
Mike Kaul of Two Rivers Emporium came down from Pinedale, Wyoming to discuss with us fishing in the Wind River Range area and the Pinedale Bridger Wilderness. To say that he was enthusiastic about fishing that area would be an understatement. He has become intimate with the area having fished there the past 48 years.

Mike currently is a guide for Two Rivers Emporium as well as conducting a fly fishing school and is a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor. From his discussion, you could really tell that he loves to teach and really enjoys seeing his students and customers catch fish.

A group from RMF went up to the Green River in that area the following weekend and reported some great fishing. Be sure to see some of the calendar pages starting in April. They were there before the May-June runoff started so they followed Mike's advise about some of the better times to be there.

Flies that Mike suggested were many of those that are popular nearly anywhere in the Rocky Mountain west. For streamers, he suggested the Muddler Minnow in sizes 4-8. For nymphs, try Copper John, Prince nymph, Stonefly, sandy mite. For surface flies, Mike liked the Royal Wolff and Humpy. For terrestrials, Mike listed the Wooly Worm, hoppers, and the Elk hair caddis.

While Mike's descriptions of both public and private fishing venues suggested remote, untrammeled areas, the Pinedale area is not without amenities. He listed a number of resorts including Chambers Bed and Breakfast, Half Moon Lake Resort, Freemont Lake Lodge as well as noting that there were available camp grounds and camp sites. For those taking a guided trip up into the mountains, they will provide quite a few amenities--more than will fit in your backpack.

The second Saturday in July brings a mountain Rendezvous to Pinedale, I think sponsored in part by the Moutain Man Museum. It turns out to be quite an even with vendors and costumes, skits and other entertainments.

Thanks Mike Kaul and Two Rivers Emporium for the presentation.
Bucky
